Trying not to laugh

I had a flat tire the other day. As flat as they get. Thankfully it was in the parking lot and not on the side of the freeway. That way I could leave it there and make The Professor deal with it later. he he.

So he went out there in the morning to change it and everything. Easy decided to go out to help. After a while he came back in and said, "I can't for the life of me get that tire to come off. I tried everything I can think of." Easy piped in, "Maybe we just need to try a stronger man." I really tried not to laugh.

On this same morning, Cuddles ended up in his room for a time out. I just love some of the stuff he says when he's in there and trying to be sassy. This time he said {among other things} "OK, I guess from now on I will drink too much wine!" Of course Easy said, "We don't have any of that." "Then I will make some! I will get grape juice and I will leave it out!" he yelled. Again, trying not to laugh.

And yesterday in the car Easy announced, "When I grow up I want to be a ballerina." I said, "That sounds great. I will come and watch you dance." Then she added, "And while I dance I will juggle. Now that will be talent!" Indeed.

My big mouth

So, I was just explaining last night to The Professor how I like the Pyrex containers better than the rubbermaids since they last longer. We've had the same ones since we got married. But the plastic ones get all nasty; we've gone through several sets. So I decided to turn over a new leaf and start investing in the Pyrex.
So what does he do?? This morning as he was {hastily} retrieving his leftovers for lunch from the fridge I heard a nice, glassy Crashing and Smashing sound. Oh, but it wasn't his lunch that shattered onto the kitchen floor. It was mine!! {sniff} Figures.

So I Bought A{nother} Fridge

That makes, let me see, fridge #4. You probably don't want me to go into the details. But I will say that if you are buying appliances anytime soon, I would probably be qualified to answer some of your questions.

I will also say that I think commission sales should be banished. It just makes things awkward when you go in and buy a kitchen full of appliances and then end up taking them back. Yeah, awkward.

And I will also say that anyone who buys something from Sears that is not on sale is being suckered.

And I will also say that the sales on the "Black Friday" were not what they appeared to be. Speaking as a person who had been tracking prices very closely for a few months, the prices increased noticably just before Thanksgiving, so the prices of the sales in October {which also happens to be when they bring out the new models=good deals} and the beginning of November were much better.

So, back to "Fridge Number Four." Our kitchen has all the appliances included except for the fridge. And they're Jenn-Air. If we had our druthers we would have all LG. Or maybe GE Cafe. But, anyways, I am not one who cares whether her appliances all "match" brand-wise. However, these Jenn-Air appliances have very distinctive handles on them, and most other brands have handles that would make them look silly together. So we were looking for a pretty specific fridge.

I was not sure what kind of deal we would be able to find. We were looking at about 3 thousand for the fridge. Not quite good enough for me. Especially when we had bought "fridge number 3" with its accompanying range, dishwasher, and microwave for $3600. So, today I headed over to the Sears Outlet. They don't have many Jenn-Air appliances coming through there {but you can have your pick of any Kenmore and there are plenty of Kitchen Aids, even LGs}

But today they happened to have this fridge. And today was the last day of the 50% off sale. {Well 50% off of their raised price, remember} But still a good deal. And I only just started praying about it this morning. I wasn't expecting to find one on my first try!

Oh, if you were wondering it was #1 Kenmore Elite, #2 Electrolux, #3 Bosch, and now #4 Jenn-Air.

Prioritizing

I found a new blog that I like. I was reading this post today and I could completely relate to what she is saying. {I *try* to keep the computer off until after dinner, I really do. But it just keeps beckoning...}
I'm just wondering what she would say about putting the kids to bed first??

Pretty Soon They'll Come to Get Me

OK, so I had all my Christmas cards ready to mail by Thanksgiving. Except that I wanted to include our new address in them to save stamps, so I set them aside to send when we had closed on the house. And they sat there and sat there. . . I finally went through and took out the address cards and just sent them anyway. I don’t think anyone got theirs before Christmas.
Yeah, so I mentioned that we are still in the apartment. Let me explain. {To make this as quick and painless as possible, I will be using bullets. No, not that kind of bullets!}
• We got the run-around from the credit union for a few weeks and finally switched to a different bank.
• Got the appraisal. It came back really low.
• Challenged the appraisal.
• Of course everyone was out of the office for the holidays. That really sped things up.
• Appraiser wouldn’t budge. Re-negotiation time with sellers.
• Realtor finds us a different house.
So we started the process over. Luckily this house is not a short sale. A bank already owns it, so it works a lot more like a regular sale. By that I mean we waited 4 days instead of 4 months for a response.
This week we are doing all the inspections and then we will hopefully close on the house the beginning of February.
Maybe I’m getting cynical, but I still feel somehow that the fat lady hasn’t sung yet. But I might as well show you some pictures.

Out with the old

I’ve been searching for a while for a new look for our room. We’ve had our bedspread for {ahem} several years. Can you tell?? Yes, I started having to wash in hot water because of allergies. The good news is that the allergies aren’t as bad, but the poor fabric just can’t hack it. . .

So the other day I saw a room in BHG and did something that I never do—I looked up in the back of the magazine to find where to buy the bedspread. It is beautiful, no?

Here’s the catch. Yes, did you see the price on that puppy?? Three hundred and fifty smackeroos. {!!!} Seriously, that’s still ninety bucks even if by some miracle I found it for *seventy*five*percent*off* {{Sigh}} Needless to say, it was back to the drawing board for me. So then I began searching for similar fabric to piece together a quilt {or more realistically a duvet cover…}
This one is a possibility:

I could even fork out the 8 bucks a yard. Sure sounds reasonable next to $350!
But I’m not ready to stop looking yet…
