Since When???

Recently I saw these really cool barrels you can put under your rain gutters to catch the water and use it to water stuff in your yard. I thought that would be pretty sweet to hook up a couple of those in the back of our house.

But, turns out Utah is one of two, maybe three states where that is illegal. Illegal. Because the state "owns" the rain water.
Huh??? Now that sounds more like something I would have expected in Massachusetts, but Utah?? Seriously?? It's the *desert.*
So much for that idea...

Ha ha! This post made me laugh! How do they even come up with laws like that? Also, I like all the stuff you are doing with your house-way to go on all your cool finds and projects.

so is there a charge to your water bill when it rains?! how much is the fine. i'd say do it anyway but now that you've broadcasted it to the world maybe that's not a good idea:)

That is strange. Very strange.

Wow--WIERD! My neighbor has one of those and uses it to water her garden. I would think they would be 'for' anything that would help conserve and reuse water. They make it sound like you were going to cast a tarp over the whole neighborhood and hog all the rain water from everyone else :-)

I say be a rebel! Go for it and start stealing all that rain water! Then when you have to replace your roof, send the state of Utah a bill for all the damage their water has caused. Ditto for having to re-wash your car if you get rained on right after getting it washed and waxed. I'm sure people in a flood plain would be happy to know they are responsible for any damage caused in the event of a flood (it can happen even in the desert!).

Thanks for the laugh! We miss you around here!

That is the coolest looking rain barrel I have seen!! Where did you find it? I have toyed with this idea, but the barrel's I have seen have either been too expensive or way too ugly :) (got to appease the HOA)
Is there a side of your house nobody sees? Because really you could just say it was your food/water storage as well :) Nobody in Utah could argue with that, right?

oh man! That is so dumb?! Seriously that makes me so furious, and now I want to go buy a bunch of barrels and put them in my yard. Its like how we have to pay more to recycle. So dumb. Your friends comment about the roof made me laugh and is seriously so true!
